When you're building new, the electrical service is one of the most important pieces to get right. It's not glamorous work - nobody frames a photo of a meter base - but it sets the tone for everything that comes after. Do it wrong and you're chasing problems for years.

Here's what we were working with: a combined shop and home build that needed a clean, code-compliant service installation from the ground up. We installed dual Leviton disconnect panels flanking a meter base, all mounted on a properly prepped exterior backing board before the walls are even finished. That's intentional. Getting the service set early means the rest of the build can move forward without waiting on power.

That two-disconnect setup is worth pointing out. Separating the shop service from the home service gives the owner independent control over each structure. It also keeps the loads balanced and makes future troubleshooting a lot simpler. Small decisions like that up front pay off in a big way down the road.

New construction electrical isn't just about pulling wire and calling it done. It's about thinking through how the building is actually going to be used and building the infrastructure to match. We take that seriously on every new build we touch - whether it's a single home, a shop, or a combination of both.

If you're in the planning or early build phase on a new construction, getting your electrical contractor involved early makes the whole process smoother. We're happy to talk through what your build needs before the first nail goes in.
